Driver Ed FAQ
Payment Policy
What is your payment policy?
Payment must be received in full by the first day of class. Full payments not being received by the first day may result in your son or daughter's enrollment being canceled. If desiring to make payments, we do allow half payments to be made with initial enrollment and the final half payments to be made by the first day of class.
What is your refund policy?
Refunds will be given for payments made but no classroom or driving has been rendered. If something unexpected should arise, please contact us. We will reimburse payment upon request. If any part of the driver education instruction has been rendered, a refund will not be given.
Behind-the-Wheel
How are drive times scheduled?
Drive times occur Monday - Sunday from approximately 8 am - 9 pm.
NOTE 1: Student's permit number and expiration date will be required to enroll for BTW drive times.
NOTE 2: Two students wanting to be driving partners will need to enroll for BTW time by signing in at the same time and choosing the same day, time, and instructor.
NOTE 3: Special Accommodations - Email info@rightwaydrivered.com if any of the following apply:
- Teen wants to drive with more than one other teen (i.e. group of 3 or more)
- Teen is homeschooled
- Available to drive during school hours from 8 am - 3 pm
- Available to drive due to early-outs, no-school days, or holiday breaks
- Special accommodations needed for classroom and/or in-car time
- Desire a specific Right Way driving instructor
It is important you understand all six drive times are not confirmed until after we have completed the final check. At that time, we will email a final enrollment of drive times. Please be prepared to be cooperative regarding any drives needing to be changed due to our final check of the company and state requirements.
If at any time there is anything we can do to meet a need and help your son or daughter have a successful and fun driver education experience, please let us know. By the way, don't forget, this is to be a blessing to parents, friends, and guardians, not an added burden. We're here to help!
How many drive hours with a certified instructor must a student complete?
All students must complete six driving hours with a certified instructor.
Do you have morning drives available?
Yes, we have early morning drive times from 6:00 - 8:00 am, but these are set up on an as-needed basis. These drive times may also be altered to adjust for the student's need to arrive earlier to school than 8 am. These drives are picked up at the classroom sessions location and the student is then dropped off at their school.
If school is canceled, will my driving time be canceled?
We do not follow school cancelations. Oftentimes parents are more than welcoming of their son or daughter driving in the snow because many have signed them up specifically for winter driving. If the interstates are hazardous, the residential areas are not; vice versa. Thus, we make the most of the opportunities given to us during the winter months. When making the decision to drive or to cancel, we collectively, (instructors, parents, and students) make a decision based on common sense and good judgment. Students living in rural areas many times cannot even venture out while students living in the city may not have any delays or difficulties. If we have roadways available to us that are safe to drive, we will drive. If we do not, we won't. If you at any time do not feel comfortable with your son or daughter driving or cannot even venture out to make the drive, we completely understand and will accommodate in scheduling a replacement drive. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel a lesson. Finally, if you do not receive a call from either me or the instructor, plan to drive. If we cancel, we will send a text to all cell phone numbers listed and will send an email. If canceling class, we will try to make contact at least one hour before class begins.
Instruction Permit
Do I have to wait six months after getting my permit to sign up for driver ed?
No. The six-month wait applies to teens getting their school permits. In order for teens to get a school permit, they must hold their permit for six months, accident-free. Learn more about school permits. For further clarification and as of January 1, 2014, teens now must hold their permit for one year, accident-free before getting their license. Learn more about transitioning from permit to license.
When can my teen get the instruction permit?
Students must be 14 years of age. Click here for more details.
Certificate
What if I lose the driver ed certificate?
We will need to reissue a new driver ed certificate to you and cancel the original one. Under Resources click Duplicate Certificate Request under Driver Ed Certificates. Fill out the information and submit it with the reissuing fee of $25. The certificate will be mailed out within 48 hours of receipt of the request. Duplicate certificates cannot be faxed or scanned because State law requires them to typewritten and with one original signature.
Adult Instruction
What is the maximum number of adult driving lessons I can take?
There is no minimum or maximum number of driving lessons for an adult. However, an estimation of how many drives might be needed will be determined after the first drive lesson. Typically, if an adult has driving experience, it may take between 1-3 driving lessons. If an adult does not have driving experience, it may take between 6-12 driving lessons. Time frames are based on the individual's grasp of the behind-the-wheel concepts and fundamentals. We suggest at least six driving hours, those being the same required amount of hours of teenagers moving from permit to license, for adults with no or limited driving experience.
When may I schedule and pay for an adult driving lesson?
We have drivers available for any time during the day or evening, and the following questions would need to be answered in order to get started:
- Do you have an Iowa permit? You must have this to begin driving with us.
- Have you had any driving experience? If so, what type and how much?
- Will you need to be picked up and dropped off for the driving lesson?
- Will you be sending a check or paying in cash?
- What is your availability both day and time, including weekends?
- Anything special that our driver needs to be aware of regarding your driving?
Payment of $50 an hour is due at the start of your drive time. To request a drive time for an adult, please call our office. We will let you know the days available, the instructor's contact information, and any final details regarding the drive time.
Can I rent one of the Right Way vehicles for my road test?
Unfortunately, we do not allow the use of the Right Way car for DOT drives. During the summertime especially, we usually do not have time available. If the car would be damaged and need repair, the cost and time lost in drives already scheduled to be rescheduled are too risky for the fee to rent the Right Way car. Individuals needing to take the DOT drive test usually ask family or a friend to use their car for the driving test.
